Villa Arttu’s exhibitions of children and young people’s art

The Art Centre for Children and Young People maintains the exhibition space of the Cultural Centre for Children and Young People Villa Arttu, the Villa Arttu Gallery. At the centre of Villa Arttu’s works are children and young people, both as makers and experiencers. The Art Centre organises three to four exhibitions a year at Villa Arttu. In addition, the gallery hosts the Handicraft and Design School Helmi’s spring exhibition and student works from the Hyvinkää Art School for Children and Young People. Smaller exhibitions are held at the hallway gallery of Villa Arttu.

The specialty of the Art Centre for Children and Young People is the international exhibition that has been organised since 1971 every three or four years. The aim of the exhibition is to illuminate how children make art, but also to collect material about children’s living environments in different parts of the world. The general theme in the exhibitions is the culture and surroundings of the children themselves. All works are stored in the international archive of children and young people’s art which is maintained by the Art Centre for Children and Young People. Today, the archive contains approximately 110,000 works from 130 countries.

The exhibitions are open Mon-Thu 12-19, Fri 12-16, for groups also at other times by prior arrangement, phone +358 50 467 8308. Exceptions to opening hours can be found on the homepage. The exhibitions are free.
